It’s easier to feel positive about the endangered tiger in your backyard if you live on the good side of town.

Researchers at Michigan State University (MSU) study what influences people’s attitudes toward the tigers that share their neighborhood in Nepal’s Chitwan National Park, home to some 125 adult tigers. In the scientific journal AMBIO, the researchers took a novel approach to putting people’s attitudes on a map.

The American Fisheries Society (AFS) will honor Bill Taylor and his student, Marissa Hammond, with the Distinguished Service Award at the organization’s annual meeting in September.

The Distinguished Service Award was established in 1980 to recognize members who have made outstanding contributions of time and energy for special projects and activities of AFS.

China’s 34-year-old Environmental Protection Law (EPL) was created when it made sense for legislators in a developing country to trade environmental well being for a boost to the gross domestic product (GDP).

Today, as China wrestles with pollution that is leaving its citizens gasping for clean air, worried about water quality and concerned for the safety of the food grown there, scientists including a Michigan State University (MSU) sustainability expert offer guidelines for revising the EPL to protect both humans and nature.
